THE STORY BEHIND MOËT & CHANDON

As mentioned, Moët & Chandon was founded in 1743 by the winegrower Claude Moët. As a pioneer in the production of sparkling wines in The Champagne region he was also the first to obtain a patent for it the manufacturing method . Even then, it was a completely unique taste experience - and therefore the new and exclusive champagnes also became popular among the then French royal family and the rest of the upper class. Against this background, Moët & Chandon quickly made its breakthrough, as a product that was primarily reserved for the few to begin with.

When Claude Moët died, it was his grandson Jean-Rémy Moët who took over the business. And in 1833 the company was renamed Moët et Chandon when Pierre-Gabriel Chandon joined and became a partner. Jean-Rémy Moët was also the man behind the international breakthrough thanks to visionary merchandising and a large network of stakeholders. Against this background, champagne also quickly became a pleasure that was not exclusively reserved for the upper class. In the 1860s, Brut Imperial was introduced – a champagne that has gone on to become a bestseller. Today, Moët & Chandon is the world's largest champagne house, just as they are by far the best-selling brand in the world

CHAMPAGNE GUIDE TO MOËT & CHANDON

When you need to find it perfect champagne for the menu , the golden rule is that dry champagne matches savory dishes such as starters and main courses, and sweet champagne matches sweet dishes such as dessert and wreath cake. If you follow this golden rule, you will achieve the best match and enhance the complete taste experience.

In addition, it is also important to note that you must avoid excessive temperature fluctuations. Your champagnes must be stored under controlled conditions with temperatures from 7 to 18 degrees. Too high temperatures will advance the aging process and damage the quality. Likewise, temperatures that are too low will delay the aging process and prevent the champagne from gaining more complexity in flavor and viscosity. The humidity should ideally also be above 70%, as a combination of too low humidity and high temperatures can dry out the cork.

It is also important that your champagnes are not exposed to daylight, as the bottles are very sensitive to sunlight, and you must handle the bottles carefully during transport etc. The pressure in the bottles is three times higher than in an ordinary car tyre, and therefore they must avoid all kinds of vibrations.

Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial

This is Moët & Chandon's classic dry signature champagne that has a distinct moisture and elegant maturity. The traditional Moët champagne is the flagship of the champagne house and cast in a harmonious blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. These are the area's best crus, and the champagne takes on a full-bodied taste of fresh fruit, flowers and brioche. The champagne goes well with either an aperitif before the meal, or with dishes with scallops, oysters, white fish or light meat.

Moët & Chandon Nectar Imperial

This Moët champagne is sweeter with exotic notes, body and a fresh finish. This makes it a perfect choice for the sweet tooth when dessert or wreath cake is to be served at midnight. Furthermore, the champagne is excellent with foie gras, dried fruit and nuts. This champagne consists of the same grape combination, but it has aromas of pear and apricot. This creates an adventurous balance between freshness and fullness.

Moët & Chandon Rosé Imperial

This champagne has a more romantic and radiant expression of the Moët & Chandon style. Moët Rosé is incredibly bubbly and fresh, and it has an intense flavor of red berries (strawberries, raspberries, currants) and a touch of roses. This type of Moët is suitable for dishes with a colorful variety of flavors, especially fresh and red fruits, a cheese board with several types of cheese and dishes with red meat.

The champagne glass

The shape of the glass is also important for the scent and taste experience of the champagne. Many choose the classic, slim "flute" glasses with a narrow opening, as they preserve the bubbles best. Others choose the low coupe glasses, which have a larger surface. However, they have the disadvantage that the bubbles disappear more quickly. It's the experts' choice tulip-shaped glasses or an ordinary white wine glass . These glasses are distinguished by highlighting the aromas of the champagne and make the sensual experience with the champagne complete. Champagne should be served at a temperature of 8-10°C. It should therefore be refrigerated a few hours before use and taken out of the refrigerator approx. 15 minutes before serving .
