Then there is something new in the Vintage series from Plantation Rum!
This time we are introduced to a Barbados rum where things have been turned a bit on their head. As a rule, the Plantation rum is stored for the longest time in the tropics, after which it gets a shorter "finish" in France. But here the rum has spent "just" two years in bourbon casks in Barbados and a full 14(!) years in cognac casks at Ferrand in Cognac!
It is therefore a 16-year-old rum! The short tropical aging gives a nice, soft and fresh character with lots of coconut, citrus, flambéed bananas, vanilla and marzipan. Then 14 years in French oak casks which previously contained Ferrands Grande Champagne cognac. The European oak hits the palate with everything we like, namely the dark, warm spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper, pollen, crême brûlée and juicy stone fruit.
All in all, a wonderful Barbados rum, distilled both in pot still and column. The rum has a great elegance and layers upon layers of aroma and flavor from the many years of aging in casks. Superior quality at a very attractive price.
Color : Amber.
Aroma : Intense and spicy with cinnamon and nutmeg, vanilla, roasted almonds, banana and coconut.
Tasting notes : Spicy, but elegant and slightly sweet. Here are notes of pepper, stone fruit and crême brûlée. In the aftertaste, the vanilla comes back, along with more spices, honey and tingling licorice and more coconut.
Serving suggestion : Should be enjoyed neat.
