Barros Colheita Port 1974 - Anos de Liberdade 1974 75 cl. 20% with gift box

€222,95

1974 was a landmark year in Portugal. After nearly fifty years of authoritarian rule, the Estado Novo government was overthrown in what came to be known as the Carnation Revolution, and Portugal was on its way to freedom and democracy.

Barros marks the 50th anniversary of the revolution with a truly exceptional bottling from their deep warehouse. It is, of course, a colheita from 1974, bottled in 2024 and decorated by the Portuguese artist, Teresa Rego, whose colorful and optimistic works reflect this vibrant wine quite well. It is made from equal parts of the four main port grapes: 25% Touriga Nacional, 25% Tinta Roriz, 25% Touriga Franca and 25% Tinta Barroca. There are only 300 bottles in Denmark.

1974 is also an excellent vintage for Barros, which has scored top marks with various reviewers, and i.a. scored 98 points at IWSC and 95 points at Richard Mayson.

Color : Amber.
Aroma : Deep notes of dried fruit, almond, plums and exotic spices.
Tasting notes : Powerful and complex, with nicely balanced sweetness, lots of raisin, mocha, orange marmalade and a deep, spicy aftertaste.

Serving suggestion : Should be enjoyed slightly chilled.

Review: 98 points from Langdahl

"Another colheita from 1974, but the style is different from Maynard's. Bottled 2024 after decades in cask. A brown liquid, packed with powdered sugar, Irish whiskey, Islay whiskey, peat on fire, ship's deck, lightly burnt caramel, creamed sugar, walnut, fig, raisin, brown potato, wild brussels sprouts, but not sickly. Excellent and firm and tannic, residual sweet, yes, but the style has more bite and phenolic pressure than Maynard's version so it's a matter of personal preference. Endless aftertaste. Close to perfection... and then salted caramel pops up and orange up at the end. Go with the rest of the family and buy a bottle."
