Every year, Krug honors the dream of one man, Joseph Krug (founder), with a new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the most generous expression of Champagne.
Since 2017, Krug Grande Cuvée has had its Édition number on the front. This became a turning point in Krug's history, bringing to light the beauty, uniqueness and collectability of these creations.
Today, close to 180 years after Krug Grande Cuvée was first produced, Krug is pleased to present A Tribute to Time.
This Limited Edition case of three bottles is a rare invitation to discover the precious influence of time on the Krug Grande Cuvée 160ème Édition, produced around the harvest of 2004 – a decade before the birth of the Krug Grande Cuvée 170ème Édition presented this year. 2022.
It is a mixture of 121 wines from 12 different years, the youngest of which is from 2004, while the oldest dates from 1990.
The final composition is 44% Pinot Noir, 33% Chardonnay and 23% Meunier.
Krug Grande Cuvée 160ème Édition spent at least 16 years in Krug's cellars, further developing its special character, depth and elegance.
Krug Grande Cuvée 160ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2004, a generous year that provided a great selection. When harvest time came, the grapes were in very good condition.
The plot wines from Meuniers revealed liveliness, tension and citrus notes, Chardonnays, liveliness and Pinot Noirs, beautiful structure.
In total, reserve wines from the house's extensive library made up 35% of the final blend, bringing the breadth and generosity so essential to each edition of Krug Grande Cuvée. Particularly notable among them were a selection of the older Chardonnays, such as the 1990 wines from the plots in Avize and Oger, which provided freshness, while the 1995 wines from the plots in Avize brought ample roundness to the final blend.
The art of blending wines from so many different years gives Krug Grande Cuvée its unique fullness of flavor and aroma, which is impossible to express with the wines from just one year.
The Edition number identifies a specific creation of Krug Grande Cuvée. It corresponds to the number of years in the House of Krug, the founder's dream has been recreated.
