In 1991, just two years after Olivier joined Krug, a Clos surrounded by a protective wall since 1766 was found in Ambonnay, Krug's favorite village and main source of Pinot Noir. The small plot of 0.68 hectares was purchased in 1994 and the first vintage was produced in 1995. Kept an absolute secret until it was released in 2007, Olivier revealed: “We even kept it a secret from Moët for a few years! " Clos d'Ambonnay is an extremely rare and exclusive champagne that is only produced in the very best vintages. Only 5,158 bottles of Clos d'Ambonnay were produced in 2000, each individually numbered.

Weather: The 2000 vintage was once hot, rainy and stormy. The harvest at Krug's Clos d'Ambonnay took place in one day on September 29: it was fantastically rich with astonishingly rich Pinot Noir grapes.

Tasting notes: A particularly bright straw gold color with a fine flow of bubbles throughout. Its aromas are full of brioche, caramel and spices, leading to a taste full of freshness combined with flavors of caramel and hints of lemon. This latest release of Clos d'Ambonnay has fulfilled the potential of the grapes from the harvest and is exceptional in flavor and aging potential.
